Founded in 1837, Fayetteville WV is the county seat and geographical center of Fayette County. This historic town is situated on the Fayette plateau at an elevation of 1820 feet. Fayetteville is perhaps best known for the New River Gorge Bridge, a remarkable single-span arch bridge resting at a height of 876 feet above the New River. This area hosts the famous annual Bridge Day Festival held in October when hundreds of base jumpers parachute from the side of the bridge side adding a splash of color to the already brilliant fall foliage. The Fayetteville community is very neighborly with a homespun atmosphere and continues to thrive on local commerce.
Lying adjacent to the New River Gorge National River, Fayetteville has become a hub of world-class outdoor recreation and offers some of the nation's most exciting and challenging white water rafting, rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, ATV tours, fly fishing and lake recreation. DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO FAYETTEVILLE
Fayetteville is 36 miles from Charleston, WV and approximately 239 miles from Washington, D.C. Positioned adjacent to U.S. Route 19, Fayetteville lies approximately two miles from the New River Gorge Bridge and six miles southwest of U.S. 60. I-77 (West Virginia Turnpike) is only 15 minutes southwest via U.S. Route 19. We are also 15 minutes north of Beckley from I-77 and I-64 via U.S. Route 19.
