FISHING IN WEST VIRGINIA ON THE NEW RIVER & NEW RIVER GORGE
The New River Gorge National River (“New River”) offers 53 miles of top smallmouth bass river fishing. The New River has been rated one of the top four best fishing rivers in the U.S. by Sports Afield Magazine due to the excellent WV fishing to be had there for small mouth bass. Twelve miles of the New River have been designated as catch and release smallmouth bass fishing. With an unusual northerly flow, this is one of the oldest rivers in North America with large sandstone boulders, deep pools, swift runs and steep canyon walls.
Trout fishing in West Virginia is equally rewarding. West Virginia waterways host year round excellent trout fishing for Browns, Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout. Excellent fly fishing can also be had on the Top Gauley, Bottom Gauley and Greenbrier Rivers in addition to on the New River.
