GAULEY RIVER RAFTING IN WEST VIRGINIA
The main attraction of the Gauley River National Recreational Area, the Gauley comes to life with scheduled dam releases, which drain Summersville Lake each fall for 22 days. Dropping over 680 feet in 26 miles, the Gauley River creates more than 120 rapids, 56 of which are rated as Class III or higher.
Upper Gauley River rafting is the essence of big water excitement creating an intense whitewater experience not recommended for the faint of heart or first time rafters. But if untamed adventure is what you're looking for, you'll discover more than 40 rapids in all, 5 of which are rated as solid Class V's.
