We love it so much, that we never miss an occasion to do so. We even make occasions up. Whether it's our popular Chili Cookoff, Taste of Bridge Day, Family Adventure Weekend or much, much more, you can count on us to bring the live music, food and beverage specials and parties. Many of our celebrations are entirely family friendly. Some... not so much. Here's what we have planned so far in 2012. Call anytime to book a spot at any of these great events! This list is subject to change! Keep checking back as we add more details! Chef’s Weekend: March 9-11Two nights of lodging, plus spend Saturday afternoon with Smokey's and Chetty's master chefs Tim White and Rezan Nese as they go in depth and hands on to help you create the perfect three-course meal. Then kick back and enjoy it! (We'll do the dishes!) Cost: Starts at $40 + tax for just the class and dinner. Make it $299 for 2 nights in an Outback Cabin or $319 for 2 nights in a deluxe cabin. Add canopy tours and other activities for additional fees.Mother’s Day: May 6She brought you into the world. She nurtured you to the person you are now. Don't you owe her a little something on her special day? How about treating her to a special Smokey's on the Gorge dinner? Our chefs are turning out their best mom-approved menu, which we'll serve on the rim of the stunning New River Gorge! Cost: $26.95 per person for an evening she'll never forget.Reunion Weekend: June 8-10In 1972, Mountain River Tours took to the waters of the New River. Who new how the saga would turn out, but Paul Breuer's company is still going strong within our family! Please join us for our reunion weekend as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Adventures On the Gorge via Mountain River Tours. Old-school guides! Old-school guests! Full-on cook-out feast and old-school par-tay! Cost: starts at $139 per person + tax. Lodging also available.Vines & Vodka: June 30Join us for a spirited weekend celebrating world class wine and West Virginia’s small-batch, premium spirits! Enjoy Saturday-afternoon seminars from our guest connoisseurs on: distilling Vodka, wine characteristics, drink recipes and wine pairings. Later in the evening, apply what you've learned with dinner at Smokey’s! Cost: $70/person + taxFourth of July Weekend: July 6-8Celebrate the 4th with us! Family-friendly festivities kick-off on Saturday, July 7 with a carnival from 4 to 9 pm on our Mill Creek Campus. Snow cones, cotton candy and popcorn will be available, as well as ongoing raffles and games for all ages. Fireworks will take place at 9 pm on our Canyon Rim campus. (Due to the proximity of the "live zone," Ames Heights Road from Opossum Creek to Hopewell (right by our basecamp) will be CLOSED Saturday evening from 8:45 to 11 pm. To ease any inconvenience, AOTG will run frequent shuttles from Mountain State Campground and the AOTG maintenance garage.) Cost: FREE to all attendees!Star Lab Adventure Night: July 14Star Lab is a portable night sky that allows people the opportunity to learn about constellations, the mythology behind them, and the solar system without the need for a clear, starry night! The Star Lab is a great experience for any age. Cost: FREE to all participants! Star Lab will be available at specific times. Check back here for schedule information!Up In Smoke: July 21Do you love to grill? Are you a fan of anything barbequed? This is the event for you! Buffler's chef, Chris Shuff, will offer demonstrations on how to create custom rubs and sauces, as well as the different approaches to cooking meat. End the afternoon by creating your own custom rub and enjoying a BBQ dinner at Buffler’s! Cost: $44/person, does not include tax and gratuity.Family Adventure Weekend: August 3, 4 & 5The family that plays together stays together! Frolic and laugh your way through this very special families-only rafting getaway with additional games and activities, such as a scavenger hunt and tie-dying. Cost: This event starts at $94 per child and $149 per adult for the events only. Lodging upgrades are available.Poker Run: August 11Who's in? Our popular motorcycle poker run will have you exploring the West Virginia countryside around the spectacular New River Gorge. The best score of 5 dice rolls (1 each at 5 checkpoints) wins, and a portion of the proceeds benefit Project Healing Waters, a foundation dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled military service personnel and veterans through fly fishing. Cost: $50 gets you breakfast, the poker run, dinner and live music!Raft for the Cure: August 18Do you know someone who has been affected by breast cancer? Are you a survivor of the disease? Then join us to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Enjoy a day of rafting, canopy touring, food and camaraderie with a portion of the funds going to the West Virginia affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Cost: Upper New Rafting, $104; Lower New Rafting, $119; or TreeTops Canopy Tour, $99Chili Cook-off: September 22Got a great secret family recipe that you think will beat the rest of the batch? Bring on the heat! Our 8th Annual Un-Official Chili Cook-Off showcases amateur chili masters from all over in a contest that makes everyone a winner! This year, we’re adding a new twist for those who can’t take the “meat,” with a Verde and salsa competition. Add live music, good food and guaranteed great time, and you just can’t miss this weekend. Enter your chili for $10, or just come and try them all for $5! |
